Lebanon and Israel have been involved in heightened tensions and military conflict, particularly tied to Hezbollah's involvement alongside Hamas following the October 2023 Hamas-Israel war. Cross-border hostilities included missile exchanges and airstrikes, causing massive displacement on both sides—1.4 million in Lebanon and tens of thousands in northern Israel.
In late 2024, after months of conflict, a ceasefire agreement was reached, mediated by the U.S. and supported by other international actors. The agreement included commitments to halt offensive actions and recognized the Lebanese army as the sole security force in southern Lebanon.
